The city of Crossville was incorporated in 1901, but was being utilized as a settlement as early as 1800, and was chosen as the county seat of Cumberland County in 1856. The early community in 1800 was known as Lambeth’s Crossroads, a junction of two roads that carried travelers east to west from the Knoxville area to the Nashville area, and north to south from Kentucky to Chattanooga. Today, most of the traffic is found on Interstate 40 for the east/west travelers, and I-75 ,which crosses I-40 near Knoxville, for the north/south flow.

Like many small towns, Crossville has fallen to the way-side since the interstates have pulled so much through-traffic away from downtown, but there are still a lot of precious bits of Americana to be found in and around this little ville.
